"SANTA FE BLOOMS" was painted 'en plein air' (outside) in Tesuque, New Mexico, just north of Santa Fe. This was the small original painting that preceded 'Golden Blooms'. It holds special meaning to me, as it was a painting adventure with my dad, who is also an artist. We drove around Santa Fe on this particular morning, scouting out a good painting location, and this was an obvious spot on a dirt road with enough room to park our car and set up easels. What a fun day! I am always so inspired to paint the brilliant yellow chamisa blooms that are scattered all over Santa Fe. In this scene I was captivated by the play of yellow against the distant blue mountains.
