"Three Boats" was painted 'en plein air' (outside) on the pier at Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island, California. It was a foggy early morning all over the island, so I decided to keep my painting simple and find some neat boats to paint. I was particulary struck by a bright yellow blanket that was left in the blue boat. That became the focal point of my painting. The most challenging part of this painting, was that the boats moved around a lot, along with the pier that I was standing on! Nonetheless, it was a fun challenge and the subject of an interesting story.
