UPDATES

Crystal Cove Shanties

During the Laguna Plein Air Invitational, I was able to submit one painting for the exhibit. This Invitational Show features the most prominent artists in the country, and I knew that I needed to produce a solid piece of work. So I decided to visit Crystal Cove State Beach, for it's sweeping views, and quirky historic cottages which were built right on the beach in the 1930's. I hiked all over the beaches, cottages, and viewing platforms before I finally found this great view looking down onto the rooftops of this row of dilapidated cottages, which are soon to be remodeled. And I wanted to capture them in their dilapidated state before the renovations take place. It was definitely a challenging subject matter, which resulted in a sunburn and backache, but also a great learning experience for me.

Until next time,
