AVALON HARBOR

"Avalon Harbor Sunrise" Oil on canvas

My last day on Catalina Island started out quiet and foggy. I awoke at dawn excited to paint a spectacular sunrise on the harbor, but instead was greeted by a thick marine layer hanging over the water. Because the light was flat and the colors were fairly dull, I decided to turn it into a fun exercise in playing up the colors of the boats in the harbor. While I was painting, a woman passed through the scene in her rowboat, making for a perfect poetic moment to capture on video. These are the precious little moments of life that I appreciate, and that give depth to my outdoor painting excursions.
