Balboa Blue

I have always loved painting boats. The quirkier and more colorful, the better. As far as inspiration goes, there is plenty to be found on Balboa Island. So when I wanted to produce a plein air painting for an upcoming exhibit, I immediately thought, "BOATS. BALBOA ISLAND." For one thing, the simplistic subject matter makes for a slightly easier plein air painting. And it also allows me to be more playful with my colors and a bit more bold with my brushstrokes. I was really happy with this painting, since I felt less stress and more liberated all the way around. Because of all this, I learned A LOT! Striving to be more liberal in my paint application. Striving for a more impressionistic, loose style, with more interesting colors. Which all leads to me enjoying my time at the easel more. The painting is on display from October 12- Oct. 24th at the Forest & Ocean Gallery in Laguna Beach, as part of the Laguna Plein Air Painter's Association (LPAPA). Go take a look and let me know what you think!
